Skibbie is playing basketball

A new sport. Don't worry, we haven't said our farewells to soccer. It is still her number one sport. One of the best things about junior high is the ability to try other sports on for size. She likes being able to play with girls from her school (a luxury for her because no one from her school is on her soccer team).  She has school spirit and is proud to play on Bobcat B team.  She didn't make the A team.  Let's face it...she's never played basketball.  Her physical conditioning is the only thing that got her on the second team (thanks you soccer!), otherwise she would be on C team.  The B team is pretty good so far.  They've played two games and won both.

Did she kick the basketball when it got away from her and try to dribble it back with her feet? Yes.
Did she forget that she was allowed to touch the ball? Yes.

Does she refuse to turn around when I'm trying to take her picture? Yes.
Did she score 4 times in the last game on some pretty sweet lay-ups? Yes.

She will go back to soccer in the spring and she will run track.  I am just glad she is broadening her horizons.  Trying new things.  That's what growing up is all about.

From the mom's perspective, there are a few great things about basketball:
1.  It's inside.  No rain.  No cold.  No heat. No grass.  No mosquitos.
2.  Practice is at 5:45 am.  Big Daddy gets up and takes her to practice then she just stays for school.
3.  Games are during the week.  We get our Saturdays back to do the things most sane people do on Saturdays, like mow the grass or relax.

Yes....I'm liking basketball.  And so is Skibbie.
