Rite of Passage

We said goodbye to our old friend Johnny this weekend. He went on to *ahem* greener pastures. Big Daddy has spent the past two years mowing our 6 square feet of grass with ole Johnny. He decided this would be the spring he would give up Johnny and pass the torch to our very own strappin' peep.

On Sunday afternoon, Action reluctantly helped set up the new self-propelled walk-behind mower. He was finally interested in the whole process when he was allowed to whip out his pocket knife and open the oil. After Big Daddy started the engine for the first time, Action was hooked. "Let ME do it, Daddy."

Excellent (insert evil laugh).

Here's his first pass at cranking it up himself.

He learned to start the mower on the concrete. It's easier that way.
After a little guidance from Big Daddy, he was on his way (notice Skibbie trailing behind, waiting for her turn. She won't be outdone by any boy).
Soon he was mowing solo.
I wonder how long it will take before he starts demanding money for this little job?
Action is feeling better today. He went to school, but he was still moving a little slow. Thanks for all your well wishes.

I hope to have an abundance of lawn mowers several years from now. Action looks so cute in his little bandana. By the way, your yard looks beautiful, I'm still trying to figure out how to grow good grass in this sandy soil of SC.

A son taking over lawn mowing duties. Now there's a rite of passage!

So glad he is feeling better!

Isn't it great when our kids get old enough to take over some of the dirty work? Good for him! Glad he's doing better.
