Galveston residents are being kept out. The mayor of Galveston is restricting access to the media. They are trying to force people out. Why? Why are they keeping people out? Why don't they let residents in for the day to secure property like they did in Mississippi after Katrina?
Let me be clear - we have seen satellite photos of the house. The roads are clear - no water, no debris. We don't want to stay when we get there. We don't want services from FEMA. We are prepared to go in with our own food, water and gas. The goal is to secure the house - clean out refrigerators, tape broken windows, remove soaked rugs, take photos for insurance, remove the rest of the documents - then leave the same day.
The information is being hoarded and controlled by the mayor. The mayor only took 5 questions at the press conference today. She claimed there was a health hazard on the island. When asked directly about exactly what illnesses people were having, she said she couldn't say. What does that mean? If there are dead bodies floating, say it. If there are caskets floating, say it. Lack of information breeds conspiracy theories, rumors and fears.
So, we, the people, have decided to band together. Mama and Granddaddy are loading a trailer with supplies to pass out to neighbors who didn't evacuate and won't evacuate, no matter how bad things get. (Some people just don't have anywhere else to go, and they won't leave the only thing they have.) We have posted info on KHOU forums about getting a convoy together. They will leave in the morning for the island.
Last time I checked, this was America - the land of property rights, taxpayers, free media and war veterans who fought to secure it all.
